Directions: Cross to Inis Bo Finne. Ferry from Magheraoarty, or swim! Hostel accommodation or camp. At the north West tip of the island are a couple of zawns of sound clean rock, accessible by track (most of the way)
In 2004 a group from Colmcille Climbers visited the Island, and climbed about half a dozen routes in the north end at Illanamarve. All, but one, were deleted after a complaint was received, that by climbing on Inisbofin, we were disrespecting all who were massacred by Cromwellian Troops. Although we were dubious about the historical accuracy of this, we took the routes down, in case there was local sensitivity. We have just learned that the climbing is mentioned in a small book about the Gaelic Islands of Donegal, and of course the Parliamentary forces never made it as far north as Donegal, and the massacre, if it ever happened, was likely much earlier and Viking related.
