Morbid Angel

Location: Winter Routes. Horse-Shoe Coire
Grade: III  3c
Length: 120m
First ascent: Iain Miller 10/02/09
Route Description:
 Grid Reference 919135, on the Eastern face of Crockfadda, immediately North of the Deep Gash Gully, three obvious icefalls converge. Climb easily at first, up the converged falls and then steeply up the centre fall, through superb ice and mixed ground. Grade II/III, defo a III for the steep water ice section.

These 3 falls have been in condition since about the 18th of December 2009, they thawed & collapsed at the weekend. Think this is proof positive that it has been a pretty special Winter! :-) HURRA for global warming. :-)

It might have been Queens MC! Old brain is gettin addled! THink we should organise the winter climbs into 4 areas, Derryveagh, Highlands, Bluestacks and Elsewhere. 4 headings, and all the individual crags go under these. What do you think?

Elsewhere is too broad an area. It may create location problems later, particularly if we ever have this type of weather again. Each hill/location has a name - that should suffice and be referred to when reporting climbs.

NUUMC had a hut at Doochary, in the late sixties/early seventies I think ( until the club was decimated in a minibus accident on icy roads) and I read that they did some winter routes in this area. No idea where I saw it, but I'll see what I can find out.
