Wonderful Stories Jesus Told * *

Location: Muckross Head
Grade: E3  6a
Length: 18m
First ascent: B Callan, N. GrimesJ(6/91)
Route Description:
An outstanding and very difficult route, with tons of character. It climbs up through the four overhangs which form a series of left-facing corners about 20m right of The Banned Wagon. Climb up to the first dark roof and up left into the first corner. Traverse right along the break to below the next corner (F4 in break and R2 in the corner above). A flat hold helps you up into difficulty in the corner above (crux) and a stance. From here, continue up and right with greater ease through thp next two roofs. A big lead.

There may have been a reluctance to award a lot of stars, where no one can climb hard enough to verify the quality of a route, I certainly couldnt! I think Raymond was consulted about Muckross for the last guide. Glad I dont have this particular poisoned chalice any more. But will put on 120 best routes on the forum shortly to stir some debate over Christmas!

Was having a think about what stars I'd give things Elvis - 1 or 2. It's fun but very short. Lightweight Louis ** - a better route? flesh *** thank you and goodbyr ** maybe? ruthless people ** Other fish * Deltoid Face *** Atlantic Ocean Wall ** others' routes banned wagon - ** maybe? Wonderful Stories ** or *** more imposing and great line The importance of being Elvis ** or ***

Isn't Paul one of the et al.? Agreed Pete concencus should decide these things however in my oppinion only people who climb a route should have a say on the grade and quality of line. Does look a cracking line though ;). The fact that a lot of these lines don't get that many ascents says more about their difficulty than their quality. Grimer, Paul et al were(are) awesome climbers and there's still not many about who can do these routes. n.b. I haven't seen many routes at muckross that look crap or easy! I'd say we go with the star/grade suggestions of the original ascenionists until repeat ascenionists say otherwise.

Routes of this time really pushed up the grades in Donegal, Grimer et al got the pick of lines and I suspect they didn't climb things because they looked crap or easy. What suggestions do we have on the stars for this line and others in Donegal. This thing should be agreed on by my old chesnut....CONSENSUS. It was pubs are for - grades, stars and graded lists. Saying that editors should have the conviction to change things (up or down).

How can a route that is described in the first line of the description as being "Outstanding" get 1 star....who decides these?
