On Saturday the 19th April Valli, Peter Cooper, Anthony Feeney, Mike Hassan and myself met at Dunowen for a spot of climbing.

We headed for Brazil Rock thinking if we stayed in the sun we might be a bit warmer but with a biting east wind we had to keep moving not to be chilled to the bone.

I led Bunratti pillar HVS - pumpy along the traverse, then awkward to gain the ledge before the flack. Croca-Corolla HVS - pleasant climbing and Zanzibar HVS 5a (more like E1 5b) with Valli and Peter seconding.

Then Valli led Expertise HS 4b with me on second, while Peter cleaned, then led a new line.

Mike (accidentally) led his first HVS, Bunratti pillar, he had a bit of a fall near the top but the gear held and he finished neither shaken nor stirred. Anthony tried to second in his walking boots having left his climbing shoes in Birmingham but had to do a leftwards traverse on to easier ground to finish.

Peter and Valli climbed a VS line which Peter had put up a year or so before while Mike and Anthony climbed Glengad Girls HS.

We retired to Valli's van for much need coffee and refreshments after which Mike, Valli and I went over to Dunmore Head. We climbed Fluid inclusions HVS 5a which I had more or less cleaned a few weeks earlier. Mike and I finished on Master of Puppets HVS 5b just as the sun was setting.

Another good day's climbing in Culdaff.
