Cornwall and other things |
Date: 18/04/08 Submitted by: Alan Tees Bill and I set off to Cornwall in pursuit of Classic rock and the elusive suntan. The trip started well on Friday with an ascent of the superb "Doorpost" a three pitch HS at Bosigran, then "Doorway" (or most of it) before the predicted rain joined the already biting East wind, sending us scurrying to the Tate Gallery at St Ives. Saturday was worser, so I talked the reluctant Bill into a coastal walk from our campsite at the back of the North Inn, Pendeen (Excellent), to a pub (The Tinners) in Zennor recommended by PC, with a brief stop to look at Commando Ridge. Had lunch there, and passed the rest of the day at Lands End (Tacky) and finding the routes at Sennen Cove, which we planned to do the next day - hopefully! Sunday was better and we hit the ground running doing 5 routes at Sennen before midday, and a further classic route at Chairladder called Pegasus in the afternoon. Then it was home for more cream teas. Note George's comment that Zanzibar is E1. That's what I graded it originally, (it was too hard for me to lead the bottom bit and I had no small wires, so I pre-threaded a hex just under the roof) but the Dunlops thought it wasn't that hard, and we downgraded it. I see Iain climbed Dubliners. Not often done, especially the way he did it! Co-incidentally, I see Frank Winder's obituary is in the current Mt Log. Iain, could you put any grading and/or quality comments on the online log? |
