Stormy Petrel * * *

Location: Muckross Head
Grade: E4  6a
Length: 17m
First ascent: R FenIon, D O'Sullivan (6/91)
Route Description:
A sensational route crossing the roof at the first turn of the crag, which can be seen from miles along the coast. Meander easily up the face to the long obvious crack in the roof, where you can place runners and brace yourself. From here, gaining purchase on the roof is not without difficulty, but the rewards come when you reach huge holds on the lip, which seem a long way away.

Fantastic blast through the roof. E4 feels good for this one.

I would keep SP at E4 6a. It's a big move on a fist jam. Danny can probably reach it from standing on the ledge. Defiantly easier E4's! Marshall climbed the lip from SP to meet got any rizlas. He said E5 6a. Not to sure on name or description

Hi Hugh Thanks for the post. Will check stuff and get it added, if missing. Still interested in other Donegal stuff you have and any Crohy Head, as per an old e-mail. Cheers

homepage.eircom.net/~rclimber/ Check out this old Irish climbing site, probably the first of its kind. Details and pics of new routes at Muckross, some of which are not in the database

it's Danny O, Iain, actually Danny BO these days. I think it was Michael Duffy on the 1st ascent. Maybe he didn't formally record it, possibly because it's a bit daft, like most climbing really.

Danny O? Who was on the FA of "Got any rizla's mate?"

Danny - 17/06/2012
You should include the E5 6a that traverses the lip from O.B. - Got Any Rizlas, Mate? Its a bit daft, but good fun.

Easy E3 6a IMO. Loads of E3s on this crag are harder.
