Brain Freeze *

Location: Winter Routes. Maumlack.
Grade: III
Length: 50m
First ascent: K. McGee, P. Tinney. 5 - 1 - 2010
Route Description:
On the North side of Manmlack there is a large gully leading up from the small lake. The gully is a easy and interesting climb. About 2/3 the way up the gully there is a large slab of rock on the right looking from the lake with superb ice on it. Grid ref:B 960 191. Climb the ice to the top making an awkward step onto ramp above. (75' ice). Follow steep ramp leftwards to the next section of ice. Climb this at about 70' and step onto the final section of hanging ice to the top of the large boulder.

Brain Freeze is accessed from Croloughan Gully, so I have added this to the winter climbs list. The gully was in great winter condition on 10/1/10 and it provides a good warm up for Brain Freeze.

Did this route yesterday with Marty, Columba and Valli. Grade 3 I think. 11/01/10

Pete - 11/01/2010
I've changed it to 3. Anyone fancy sorting out the order of routes for this crag?

IM - 11/01/2010
Pete, This route is no8 for this crag and as they are listed, they are in left to right order.(facing the coire from the North) Until someone climbs the huge unclimbed ice smear in the centre of the coire. :-)

IM - 06/01/2010
This ice feature looked very hard indeed from the North slabs, well done young Yedis'!

Columba McLaughlin - 06/01/2010
Looks fantastic. Certainly looks a lot more difficult than a grade of D. Well done lads.

Patrick Tinney - 05/01/2010
We gave this a grade of D. We dont know much about the winter grades yet. Excellent climb ice screws recommended.
