Roraima * * *

Location: Eglish (The Gatepost)
Grade: HVS  4c
Length: 25m
First ascent: A Tees, B Johnston
Route Description:
Start below bulging rock directly above the shelf at the top of the access crack at the rounded flake. The route follows the large flake crack in the upper wall. Climb steeply over bulge to gain left trending groove. At the top of this groove step across and into the base of the large crack/flake in the upper wall. Climb the flake with a smile on your face and hopefully a large hex or friend on your harness. Brilliant positions for the grade.

Led this today, interesting climbing and generally well protected. The first third is pretty dirty though.

Finally got back to this yesterday and what a wonderful climb, another one of the best routes that I have ever done.Very well protected with very sustained climbing, don't forget to bring a few very big cams for the finish.

Definitely 3 stars. I almost lead this but baled before the traverse, one of those off days having alot lately, Kevin had to finish the job. Cant wait to get back.

Alan Tees - 14/08/2010
It was originally that. Ronnie thought I had overgraded it.

Definitely worth 3 stars. HVS seems ok as there's gear everywhere but maybe 5a for the hard move??

Peter Cooper - 04/08/2010
Kevin, give us an opinion on what you think the grade is and are the stars justified? Anyone else out there got views on this route/

That man Tees is a renowned dodgy-grader.

A super route but the moves across to the flake felt harder than 4c. I found myself doing more swearing and sweating than smiling.
