Fools Staircase

Grade: HVS 5a

First ascent: S.MacGearailt, D.Doyle, R.Toal

Route Description:

Descend to easy angled slabs west of Twin Caves Area and traverse for approximately 50m to area where there are 4 obvious steps to top (Just after big overhangs/roofs). Climb steps to top. Third step awkward mantleshelf. Climb final step via crack with awkward finish.

The first few steps are easil avoidable by scrambling round and the 3rd step can be made a lot easier by stepping left. The final (cracked) step is however definitely HVS climbing with a tricky finish. THere was an abandoned and unfragrant seagull nest at the base of the final step which added character.
