Carick A Rede

We picked a good day, torrential or merely persistant rain!  Warmly welcomed by Caroline, the site manager, in the dry cafe, and inspired by her stories of the original use of the quarry to pave Glasgow, we set off. George, Marty, Geoff and self, ably assisted by Mary, fought our way through soaking jungle/brambles to get to the quarry cliff top.  Four abseils and a cut rope later, we were all agreed that whilst there was some potential, it didnt justify the amount of work required to develope the cliff as a viable climbing venue. More tea in the cafe, and the possibilities of using the 25m high kiln wall as an outdoor facility for climbing/abseiling provided some recompense.

I visited Bill in hospital in the evening, who was in good form, recovering remarkably quickly, (and was even better yesterday).  We all wish him well.
