Big Ben

Self, and 3 sons, Chris, Andrew & Peter, went up the Ben on what should have been a nice, clear, sunny day, but Lochaber makes its own weather.  The CIC hut was shrouded, and it took a while to locate the bottom of Castle Ridge.  It was abandoned (due to lethal rock) after about 20 minutes, and we decended, to grope our way up the back of the corrie onto the Carn Mor Dearg Arete.  Made the top about 3.00, down at 6.00.  Millions of people, as there was a Marie Curie sponsored ascent, to add to the usual summer hoardes. We had 2 hours of excellent craic on the Ice Wall at Kinlochleven on Sunday morning, and then home.  Big fire in Ft. William on Thursday. McTavishes Kitchen, West Coast Sport (best outdoor shop in the town), and another shop were destroyed
