On the Pigs Back Again. |
Date: 29/04/07 Submitted by: Alan Tees Pete, Bill, Margaret and self went to Muckish and met up with Geoff. Pete & Geoff headed off to climb Thera. Bill and I to do a second ascent of Thundercrack, and Margaret went up Muckish, where she met a group of Ex members of the now defunct Glenfoffany Climbing Club. Thundercrack, which is the big crack/chimney system on Hogs Back Buttress, should be VS4b, has a serious feel, and should only be undertaken after a period of dry weather. But its good value! By the time we got back to the others, Geoff had knocked off Thera (including the flake quarter way up) and PC was eyeing up a new route up the dramatic arete to the left of it. Scary even to watch, but he did it. E2 or something! Meanwhile I scallyed up another new line to the right, followed by Geoff. While PC & Geoff made an abortive attempt on Balor Pinnacle, Bill and I went round to Pedestal Route, HS 4b, and extended the route right to the bottom of the pinnacle. We then moved across the gully to McSwynes, where two other guys were climbing, and PC got mugged by a holdless slab and I climbed Winklepicker. Pat & Tara had arrived and climbed Tory Canyon, and were starting Winklepicker as we left. Fine day. |
