No Climbing at Fairhead |
| Date: 29th March 2008 Submitted by: Anthony Feeney Feeling a little delicate from the evening before which involved a very nice 12 year old Glenfiddich, my friend Sian and I went to Fairhead to meet George, PJ and Pete. It was a bit blustery and the rain was ever present. After an hour of dandering round the top and admiring the thundering breakers below Sian was soaked through and headed back. The rest of us were slightly better equipped for the poor weather and used George's rope to abseil down the usual descent onto the Prow. PJ hasn't climbed here yet and we pointed out the common lines (Thief et al) before scooting round to the left to admire some bolder E lines and finally on to the 50m VS triplet of Gerona, Chieftain and Taoiseach, at least one of which I've ear-marked for later in the summer. By the time we'd climbed out of the gully the weather had cleared and we had a pleasant wander across the tops admiring the exit to some routes, especially Roaring Meg a 100m, 3 pitch VS which has previously worried the fearless Pete. We stopped in Thyme & Co. in Ballycastle for some excellent food (bacon & brie ciabatta, followed by warm chocolate brownie and cream) before heading on to the Saturday night frolics. A good scouting day. |
