Easter at Cruit |
Date: Easter 2012 Submitted by: maeve mckeever 20+ climbers from the IMC and CCC landed at Dunlewey Hostel for easter weekend, not deterred by the poor weather forecast, since Iain Miller had guaranteed good weather and great climbing at Cruit. Sure enough we had a full day’s climbing on saturday, with gridlock and lots of craic at the Outdoor Climbing Wall, and later back at the hostel with our new BFFs. After a text from the Advanced Base Camp reporting dry conditions, we descended again to Cruit on Sunday morning from a drizzly Dunlewey to get a few hours climbing at Far west Buttress on Iain’s expert recommendation before the rain came in. Some opted for Errigal in the afternoon and got a dry run. Others opted for wetter conditions in the pub. Monday was a great day walking up the Poisoned Glen to battle horizontal snow or scrambling on Errigal ending a great weekend. Thanks to Karl at the Hostel for being so relaxed in spite of the impossibility of figuring out how many we were and where we were sleeping! Lots of the IMCers hadn’t been to Cruit or Dunlewey before and were glad to have the company. We are invited to the Burren in June! |
