Greater Leap Isle

Location: Sea Stacks and Pinnacles
Grade: VD
Length: 27m
First ascent: Martin Mc Guigan, Alan Tees, Bill Magowan
Route Description:
Grid ref7179723259 on Owey Island, 10 minutes North of the harbour. An obvious rectangular window through the sea stack on the left hand side looking out to sea is The Window. Starting at sea level up to a ledge and bridge up the window to a large slab of rock and an easy scramble to the top. Martin McGuigan originally called this the Alamo, but it has also a Gaelic name.

Window Route on The Alamo, Owey. - Alan sorts out the rope, which is subsequently ignored by Marty, who makes a solo break for the top. Note the audience projected on the rock.

lads have you done any other lines on this stack/island? We swam over to a great line opposite sting at the weekend just wondering if its new? Soloed a diff line on the northern edge to a platform that runs at half height for the length of the island and took a steep corner to the top. We also noted a lot of broken glass on the platform which would imply the locals have been up there for beers at some point. We down climbed to the right of this window to get off. I'll get the proper Gaelic name for the island/stack off Dan.

About June 2007 I think, but will check.
