Ballad of the Wood Thieves

Location: Cruit Island - Traderg Wall Area
Grade: HVS 5a
Length: 10m

First ascent: Michael Hassan, PJ Monaghan 23/05/09

Route Description:

This takes the next obvious crack/corner line a few metres to the right of Distraction past the blank wall (left of Ga greine). Move up from platform to a pointy step. Using the crack reach up to good hold above and continue up laybacking on the flakes. Good hold on left at top, then rock over to the right onto blank slab to finish.

Definitely harder than 5a, I'd say HVS 5b and not E1 because the gear is solid.

sounds like Carraig ar Crith - nice route

Climbed Ballad of the Wood Theives yesterday and it felt more like E1 5b a good line with bold moves through the crux after the flake; also climbed Carraig ar Crith which was a few meters to the right.

yep think it's a hard HVS or a low E1, did it at the weekend, good route, the top moves are good but bold.

This route should be in the Poll Na Caoineadh section. Again the route could be Carraig ar Crith, but it is probably the line just to the left of this. I remember stepping right onto the sloping slab at the top as seen in the picture.
