Five go Wild in Derryveagh

Route Description:
The North face of Slieve Snaght contains a huge ridge running almost due North for 250m from the mountain's summit. At the base of the ridge (approx 100m due south of Loch Shiabh Sneachta Beag) the ridge is split by a very prominant gully. The following route climbs the arete that forms the West flank of this gully. Route was climbed in true mountain fashion in big boots, big rucksacks and pouring rain.Pitch 1, 25m. Climb the arete, making an interesting short chimney jamming move onto an exposed grassy ledge.Pitch 2, 20m. Step right into a shallow left facing corner, climb the corner to a huge recess below an ominous chimney.Pitch 3, 20m. Squirm up right trending chimney to gain hanging slab above climb ever steepening slab to a deep vertical crack. Big cam belay.Pitch 4, 15m. Continue up slab to an obvious rock spike at beginning of the steep grass.A further 25m of steep scrambling and you are onto more friendlier hillwalking terrain.
