Sergeant Pluck * * *

Location: Ben Cormac (Lough Barra)
Grade: E2  5b
Length: 43m
First ascent: Ronnie Smith & Bill Magowan 2/10/03
Route Description:
Start 2 metres left of the lowest point of the slab. Move up left to right trending cracks, surmounting a slight bulge (delicate) until just below a horizontal quartzite vein. Excellent move up over bulge leads to thin crack on right which shortly fades out. Step left into major crack in centre of slab and follow (layback) to top.
Good selection of small cams comes in handy.
Route was previously top-roped by Bill Magowan, Alan Tees and Peter Cooper. Climbed on-sight by Ronnie Smith.

Nice one, Pete. obviously no loss of humour on your part. Bill forgiven ages ago, but still would've liked to get this line...perhaps that's a sign for others as to how good a line I think it is. I have no hesitation over its three stars.

Bill obviously assumed you weren't up to the job, Peter. A shocking slight on your abilities, in my opinion. I'd go round and whack him.

Hi Patrick, I agree its a beaut line and that step across is fantastic; I too recommend this line and Alan's route to the left. Only wish I'd got the first ascent, Bill and I had gone back, after cleaning it, only to get rain. Next Bill I knew Bill drafted in Ronnie...ho hum!

Excellent climb worth its 3 stars. Was a bit wet but not too bad for November. The rock still had great friction even when wet. Getting into the final crack was nerve wrecking. A hard climb.
