Date: 19-21 Feb 2011 Submitted by: Keith Monaghan Went back to Torridon for some unfinished business, travelled with Ewan Ballantine, Johnathan Styles, Paul McMulkin and Neill Elliott. Stayed in wooden lodges just behind the Kinlochewe hotel, Day 1 was a trip over the ridge and horns of Alligan, snow and ice at 600m, Day 2 was a traverse of the mighty Beinn Eighe via fuselage gully in Coire Mhic Fhearchair which is still filled with the remains of a Lancaster bomber. It crashed in 1951 resulting in the setting up of the RAF mountain rescue team, apparently some of the crew survived the crash but perished before help arrived 8 days later. The aircraft was then blown up and most of it went down this gully with a large prop, which you have to climb through, being lodged about half way down. Superb bright cold winters day with Munro no 200 bagged on one of the best corries an mountains ever climbed. Day 3 saw a return to Foinn Bheinn, my Irish bungee jump site in 2009. Weather this time was meek compared to my last visit and was able to find the crag I "didn't see" the last time I was up there. Was less than 100 meters from the summit! Another superb winters day and unfinished business completed. 25 Feb 2011 Spend any more time in Scotland and you'll have to get yer own tartan! 25 Feb 2011 200 Munros, good effort. Like the picture, looks really good. 02 Mar 2011 Brian Ringland must be getting worried!! Any plans for Corbetts/Grahams/Marilyns etc. Hope Sam is well on way to recovery. 03 Mar 2011 Hope to conquer all the UK/Ireland pubs over 200m! Possibly the VDs in the Classic Climbs book, and hiking somewhere warmer |
