Inish Times report on Climbfest 2011

Date: 29th Apr- 2nd May 2011
Submitted by: Alan Tees

Those who attended the 2011 Climbfest at Culdaff, were rewarded with the best weather in the event’s 7 year history.

Although there was a cool breeze in unsheltered areas, the sun shone throughout, and the inhabitants of the 40-odd tents, and surrounding accommodation, enjoyed glorious conditions as they climbed at Dunmore, Dunowen, Malin Head, Warm Bay Point, Dungloon and Barnanmore.

Amongst the Irish contingent, there were climbers from Wales, Scotland, England, Sweden, Czech Republic, Finland, Australia and New Zealand , all of whom were hugely impressed with the North Inishowen Peninsula.

Due to concerns over nesting, climbing was restricted to the right hand crag at Dunmore, and it is also hoped that the current “three year cycle”, where the event is only held at each venue once in every three years, will also assist (although Fulmars and climbers have co-existed at Dunmore since the seventies, and both are still there!)  It is likely that the Climbfest will be in Glencolmcille next year.

Thanks to our sponsors Java Republic and Mountaineering Ireland, McGrorys, who made us welcome as usual, and particularly to the landowners, without whose tolerance and goodwill ,the event could not have taken place.

Found- after the Climbfest, 1 pair Raichle boots size 10

I camelot, and 1 DMM harness!
