Pigeon Rock: Women with Prussicks |
Date: 24/09/11 Submitted by: mmk A dozen climbers of mixed gender and mixed intentions turned up at Tollymore Car Park 10am sharp for the Women with Altitude Meet in the Mournes. Four came north from Dublin with a three colmcillers in the northern mix plus Gertrude and Cliona. Pigeon Rock was decided upon due to the strong SW wind forecast, but it turned out to be calm and fairly sunny. The climbers were very keen and determined to knock off all the Severe's and HS's on Gully wall. Class Distinction, Faerie flight, Pir Squared were climbed by most. Each leader took two up on second, so a good pace kept up throughout the day. The abseiling sometimes needed more attention than the climbing, with several opinions about the best way to do this causing some frayed nerves and white knuckles for the poor unfortunate being sent over the edge to try out the most popular tactic. A lunchtime demo-lead of E1 Rosa Parks from the Red-haired One upped the pace for the afternoon, Clare finished with a lead of Rainbow Warrior Vs and we finally quit around 6pm. Great day out if a bit hectic! We are planning a Dalkey Day next before the snow arrives all genders welcome! |
