Route Description:
Route 13,   Gortin Glen and the Robber's Table Gortin Glen is a popular venue for mountain biking competition.   This route offers the choice of technical descents within the forest park, with more open mountain tracks in the Southern Sperrins. Start;  in Gortin Main St, there is a cafe called the ' Peddlars Rest' at the East end of the village, Grid ref 496  857.    Continue east for a kilometre and turn right, climbing South then West towards the 'Scenic Lakes', which are reached in approx 2k.  A pleasant diversion can be made on a track around the south lake to rejoin the road, reaching a 'T' junction on the main Gortin/Omagh road.  Turn left, and soon after, leave the road to the right on a forestry track on the 'Ulster Way', (also marked as a bike trail), which continues to climb, running roughly parallel with the road.  At Crockanard, a choice of narrow single track bike tracks present themselves.  These provide a more adventurous descent towards Gormleys Bridge, which can also be gained on the main forestry track. On regaining the road, continue West on the minor road towards Newtownstewart,  past the camping/caravan site, past Donnelly's Bridge to turn right at gr 463 827.    Initially tarmaced, the track, (signposted ' Right of Way' )climbs steadily towards the 'Robber's Table'.  Higher up, it becomes grassy, and can become heavy going in wet weather, as it crosses the broad col West of Curraghchosaly Mountain.   Several gates/ stiles are negotiated, before the track descends steeply to join the road at a cross roads.  Turn right, and continue, mainly downhill,  to Gortin Village.   3 Hours. Mainly forestry or hill track track.  Options of technical sections.  Map,  Sheet 13, The Sperrins' 1;50,0000
