Route Description:
Route 14,  Aine's  Route. This is a nice combination of coast and mountain, starting from the lovely thatched pub/restaurant at Aughris Head, and taking in the part of the Sligo Way that traverses the North side of the Ox Mountains, just West of Ladies Brae. Follow the N59 from Sligo towards Ballina, and turn right just beyond a chapel at Gr 534 332 following signs to Aughris head and the' Beach Bar'.  Park at the pub, grid 507 359, an idyllic situation. Start, at the thatched  'Beach Bar' pub and restaurant, and head back inland (South) to a T junction (2k), turn left, and take the first right to a staggered cross roads on the  N59.  Cross, and follow the minor road uphill, past a dramatic kink,  to join the Sligo Way at Gr 509 303 (yellow arrows).   Turn right, and traverse the northern slopes of the Ox mountains in a Westerly direction, losing and then regaining height, until it becomes a track on the  SW climb up Kings Mountain.  A wind farm appears, and the track suddenly levels off as you join another,  turning west, and descending.  At Dunowia, keep right of the gate, and follow the yellow arrows downhill, to take the first right at Gr 460 298, and first left at Gr 470 300, down a farm lane.  This finishes at a gate at Grangemore.  Cross this, and go left, onto a grassy boreen down a short narrow valley to regain the road at a farm yard.  This is followed  downhill, and right, to cross the N59 at the Chapel at  Templeboy.  Just over 1k( and a dogleg) later, the coastal road is reached, turn right, then left at KIlrusheighter towards Aughris Head.  This will lead back to the thatched pub. 2.5 -3 hours, 28.6 k.  OS 1;50,000 sheet 24.  Mainly quiet lanes and roads, very short section on grass.  Difficulty-  green (nothing technical).
